Our favorite cable needle to teach cable technique, the J shape has a definitive slide on the short end, knit off the long end, and when the stitches are held in front or back, they disappear out of sight without falling off the needle. 3 sizes of needle, to accommodate most gauges (you just need a needle thinner than your working needle).
